You lose a certain element of balance with the new one, and I think anyone who had problems with the existing one will continue to have the same problems. Both look good, both are functional, I just think the existing one is more aesthetically pleasing.

Any comments on the new proposed portal?
The link to the forums index page is even more obscure than on the existing page.

Why do you need a big button that says "Forums" when there is an existing link for it?

Strictly speaking you don't. However, people divide up into two camps: ones who assimilate information quickest from written text, and those who think more "visually" and assimilate information better with graphical elements - icons, pictures, diagrams etc.

I'd agree with the original poster that a big button somewhere might be helpful for some people, but that means extra work for someone - and there are other phpdn projects we're working on at the moment. I'm not even sure how easy it is to make such changes - haven't looked at the phpBB code.

Hmm. than we would have to decide which graphics program we would use to make such buttons. Me looks at redhair, and gives him the "Get that bad ass paint program out and whoop some buttons up".
<sarcasm version 1.0>
Of course, the link would be par for the course. I think having redhair's button, and my link together should easily congregate the illiterate into one faculty of faith and deliverance to the promised land of html programming tips and tricks.</sarcasm>

ok...that was the fun part, but...comming back to your original question....what did you want to ask before you got lost in the website, searching for the forums link?

You never did ask...

ps: good luck on finding the reply button ;-)

One thing that I HATE is when viewing a multi-page thread, the page numbers at the bottom left of the screen are just plain text, while the ones at the top are links! I would LOVE it if the numbers on the bottom, were links just like the top. If I confused anyone on this, I will take a screenshot and show you.

I don't see a need for a major redesign -- but it *would* be nice to see the line "PHP Forums" in larger font size, or something. I do a number of other forums, and this one was at first the least obvious to navigate of them all.
Once I get out of the first page, though, it's just fine.

That's strange - they're hyperlinks in my browser.
