counter-strike : condition zero

i thought i'd stop writing about PHP for a minute..........

well, i finally purchased the game the day it came out (last friday) and ive gotta say its gotta be the most disappointed i have ever been in a game

going back 2 years, i was introduced to CS at a friends house, i was mainly into redfaction, UT at the time, so it came as a refreshing change, little did i know that this would become an 18 month long addiction

counter-strike was always for me anyway, a game of skill and tactics after waiting for what seems like years of delays i wonder whether it was worth bothering.

CS:CZ is graphically very good, even though its running on a 6 year old engine, ok so it doesnt compare to far cry and UT 2004 but so what, half-life is still better than the aforementioned 2 games

ok, as we CS fans all know, CZ was haunted with delays, changes in development companies etc, and i now fully understand why the development changed hands so late in the day

undeleted scenes are what ritual designed i believe (could be gearbox) and it is quite possibly the worst game i have played in a long long time, it doesnt come close to the ingenuity and suspense of half-life and feels like a mod (most mods are actually better than this), i played through the first 2 levels of this mode and give up, it was that tiresome, actually i loaded a save game up once and it reset my machine

the new 'weapons / items' in it are absolutely useless as they can only be used at pre-designated intervals, the AI is absolutely horrendous and the game relates in no way whatsoever to counter-strike

now onto the newly designed game by turtle, this 'tour of duty' mode is indeed very very weird, its basically a "tony hawk's style" game where you must complete objectives to go onto the next mission and therefore unlock more skilled bots, a useful addition but doesnt get away from the fact that its a glorified free for all

the AI for the bots in the normal game, is extremely goof, unlike other bots (podbot, realbot) bots behave more humanly, there is actually now a point of walking around so they cant hear you, teams actually works as a team! and the radio command for the bots is a treat.

however i still would not recommend this game even if you love CS more than your mum, the new weather-effects and all new tectures are cool but they certainly arent worth £25 of my money

CS:CZ - 7/10
Deleted Scenes - 2/10

however there is one redeeming feature about this, you get a free half-life 2 disc which has 8-10 movies from HL2, this needs to be seen to be believed, without doubt this is gonna be the greatest game ever made

have you got CZ? what do you think?

Haven't got CZ - was never much of a CS player except for over our home network (something cathartic about shooting your husband with a machine-gun  ) but can't wait to get my hands on HL2, probably'll need a new graphics card first though :( ...

Never bought it. Never played CS. I'm a die hard Quaker. I was still into Quake I until a few years ago when I picked up Quake 3, and I've been at it since.

I've never liked those realistic games. Or games with a complex story line. I use games like these as a form of stress relief. So I prefer ones where I'm placed in a map with others, given a gun, and allowed to kill what I want for whatever reason I want. The only "missions" I enjoy are Capture the flag; but besides that, it's just frag and frag more. None of those cinematic movie-type games with a boat load of cut scenes.

That's why I'm personlly holding off of playing UT 2004, Unreal 2, and those other new ones.

Doom 3, and Quake 4 is what I'm looking forward to this year.

Sorry to make a reply totally off topic, but I thought I'd add my two cents.

from what i understand HL2 will be kind of a multi-spec game meaning that it can be played on a system with as low as DX6 but to get the most out of it you'll need DX9

expected System requirements
p4/amd = 2.56ghz
ram = 512/1024ddr
GFX = radeon 9800 / geforce fx 5800

yeah so, i better start upgrading as well

believe me unreal 2 sux, i had it, graphically stunning, game-wise it sux, many reviews agreed with what i say about that game, plus you need a monster of a machine to run it.

well, i got pretty bored of the UT, Q3 tactics of just shoot, whether it takes more skill to play Q3 or CS is up for debate but nevertheless i own most FPS from yesteryear inc
q3:arena (some special edition) 7/10 - good for 30 mins
UT - 7/10 better than Q3 but still only good for 30 mins
Soldier of fortune 1 & 2 - crap on-line mode
Counter-strike - 10/10 pinacle of gaming
Day Of Defeat - Cheap medal of honor clone 6/10
Natural Selection - overcomplicated garbage 4/10
MOH:allied assault - uk#2 2 years ago 9/10, bad net code
Battlefield 1942 - utter rubbish, lag me more please 3/10

probably have others just cant think of them atm

my most eagerly awaited games
1 - Half-Life 2
2 - Doom 3
3 - Unreal Tournament 2004 (is out now)
4 - Halo 2 (pc version)
5 - Counter-Strike 2 (HL2 Mod please!!!)
6 - FarCry (out now, my pc's arent good enough)

as you can see im somewhat of a FPS whore

Same here mate. I very rarely play games, but when i do, i just load up something like GTA:Vice City, slap every cheat on for weapons, health etc etc and go on a mass destruction spree for half an hour.

I love it

LOL

Yeah that's the main reason I only play Q3 Excessive. The regular form is too conservative. When you can shoot 300 rockets at someone in under 25 seconds, it just makes you feel better.
