Ideas for an application
Im currently looking into developing an "application" that can be used everyday, and will actually be fun and more importantly challenging to create.
Currently ive came up with these ideas
MyMoney - In The Vein of Microsoft Money because other PHP money programs that ive used are'nt very good, and i require one
Calendar System Lots of them already on the net, but it may be challenging
Support Centre Just been looking around for one of these and the ones available are truly awful, i require one for one of my new "ventures"
anyone else got any ideas?

Why don't you do this one? It seems like a good idea. Besides, if it's something you need, all the better.malcolmboston wrote: MyMoney - In The Vein of Microsoft Money because other PHP money programs that ive used are'nt very good, and i require one

So are you going to make it web based, or a PHP-GTK app? As a PHP-GTK app, it would be pretty cool. I messed around with PHP-GTK a bit, but i've started in the direcition of Python for desktop GUI type apps. At this point in time (I'm actually taking a break from it right now) I'm writing a little front end for a script I wrote that displays a slide show as your desktop background images. I need the practice anyways.
Cheers,

In fact, if my dream-application is successful, I might even buy yours to help service it!
why don't we come up with a project idea, then start to develop it as a group!?
Im sure it would be brilliant because we have so many people with so many different skills here.
From design skills right down to the most hardcore programming!
If we did get one started, im sure if we asked nicely, we could get our own little forum on here to discuss stuff.

you god damn son of a $£%$£% this means war!!!
lol, i started on it last night, get the main layout done, written some security scripts, connection scripts and a few "task do-ers"
also written the cfg and install files
with my other clients though, it wont be ready for at least a month, when ill release it for beta testing and judgement....
i could build one of these in less than a week, i had a look @ what hotscripts are offering on this front and they are truly awful, they do not implement features i would deem important in a support center, if you want one give me a PMdave wrote: like the Support Center idea (with American spelling of course ). I have no ideas at all about how it would be implemented, but I think there would be a need for it.

of course theres a need for it, eventually i will get round 2 developing one anyway, support centres are, i deem, very important to a business on the net, it cuts down unnecessary calls to you.
around 3 years ago i got AOL (dont even think about it) they had one feature that i have yet to see implemented anywhere else, a support centre so good it makes my eyes water, you had a problem you connected to the support area, took a ticket and talked directly to a so-called "support engineer" in real-time, very simple but extremely good and effective, my app will have much much more than this like automatic logging, ticket queues, multiple "bases", etc

A WEEK!? At the rate I'm going, I'm looking at a couple of years before my idea would be marketable. And I've been thinking about it (and spent several months coding in a different tool) for at least four years now.malcolmboston wrote:i could build one of these in less than a week, i had a look @ what hotscripts are offering on this front and they are truly awful, they do not implement features i would deem important in a support center, if you want one give me a PMdave wrote: like the Support Center idea (with American spelling of course ). 'Course, I can only do it part time, but even so, I just could never match the coding and debugging speed of some of you folks.
But yeah, at some point I'll probably be needing that. The application itself is designed to be user customizable, and it'll sell with some pre-installed capabilities, but I envision that I'd be doing a lot of the custom modifications myself as a support service.
