i currently have a pricing guide and currently for better than that package is under £80 ($135)

is it just me or are them prices way overinflated?

ok, so they have friendsreunited in there portfolio, so what that site stinks, i could create better than that given 6 months

Thats very rude of you to say. Did you do anything to help create any aspect of that site? I bet not, giving you no right to bash someone elses hard work. There could be code in there you wouldnt even be able to make heads from tales from.

Regardless of its quality, gives you no reason to say it "stinks." We need to grow up a little =]

As for the prices, I really dont have a clue. It would depend greatly on the project at hand. A full blown shopping cart may be a bit more then a tiny write to a txt file code. Sorry I couldnt be more helpful with prices!

from the site wrote: This comprehensive package includes everything you need to become established on the World Wide Web including:

A professionally constructed 3 page web site
Additional pages if required
Domain name registration (http://www.yourcompany.co.uk)
Email forwarding (you@yourcompany.co.uk)
Search engine registration
Monthly hosting
Regular site statistics (providing valuable visitor information)

The package is ideal for a company looking for a professional introductory web presence and from only £300.00 plus £20.00 per month for hosting, it represents excellent value for money.

it seems like a very comprehensive service - like for a business that has no computer-saavy whatsoever. And, hey, if they're getting customers then I guess its ok, right?

<-- is gonna seriously bump up his prices

also, in the near future im gonna need to 'hire' some people from these forums to ease my workload, so if your interested gimme a PM.

I will choose people by there skill level shown on these forums, not the web-sites they've built in the past, so if you've just seen this letter and have like 3 posts, dont bother

Anyone interested PM (btw it would be paid work, 50% split)

also its worth noting i will only hire people i feel i can trust, giving shoddy, late work or work that simply never materialises, gives the company a bad name and cannot be allowed, so unless your an active member of these forums dont bother either

sorry for this "discrimination" but i hope you understand the reasons behind it

You should try posting in the Job part of the forum. Might be better viewed there.

ah, its ok, ive already had 2 offers i will be looking further into, i thought i would not spam and keep this ongoing as the sort of person i want is someone who actually scours these forums and not just comes and looks for work

no offence intended anyone

Mal

Thanks though jam for your concerns

I would never do all of the work and split half of it with you. That's just insane o_O.

£300 for 3 pages! 8O

£20 per month to host those three pages. 8O

Having a laugh aren't they? I've considered moving a project of mine onto http://www.host-plus.co.uk on a package which can handle more than three pages, and that is less than £50 for two years!

Maybe you're meant to haggle.

Edit: Then again, if people aren't prepared to look around for what they're getting, they deserve everything they get IMHO.

Yea but I think they are designing and implementing and everything - like i said before its for a very computer-naive company - someone with a lot of cash, and no know-how who just wants something done with a minimum of fuss

Everything has a price. Packaged deals are usually more expensive, but then everything is going to work. If you are a non-tech company that wants to have a website setup, are you necessarily going to know how to do it? Probably not. And are you going to know what to look for in a web hosting company? No. You wouldn't even know what the heck FTP was, probably.

Yeah, we all look at that and shake our heads. However, we also create our own websites in our sleep. So this company establishes itself and it's prices, and then people buy from it. How is that so bad? If someone is willing to pay for it, someone is going to sell it.

I look at Windows and can't imagine how someone would pay for it, but people do all the time.

The other thing to look at is how much is your time worth. Indeed, I am sure Moderators here on these boards could get away with charging a bit more to clients just because they have a name behind them (Yeah, I am a moderator here on these very boards, so I must be good!). So you play on your name. Everyone does it. I mean, heck, I am sure for the right price, Rasmus would write you a PHP program, and I am sure it would be good. Does that mean it's going to be cheap? No. Does that mean you couldn't get it from someone else for a cheaper price? No.

So this company is charging a lot (I don't know if they are, I am not in the web design/hosting business). Maybe they can because they have so many clients, they have to raise prices to weed out the ones that aren't worth it (the small ones). So they limit their customers a bit, but are still making money, and keeping their quality up.

So don't bad mouth a company just because you don't think their services have value. Guess what, if they are in business, someone thinks they have value. You would do well to study what they are doing, and possibly incorporate some aspects of their business with yours.
