Hmm, lets see started using PHP in the fall of 2000 while rewriting a legacy Perl application. The team chose PHP to make it easy for our web design (HTML/CSS/etc) expert to easily contribute, but we ended up converting him to a coder more or less :). Like people have said, arriving at PHP knowing other languanges makes it easy. I was comfortable programming in it after maybe a few weeks, but it took several months to really feel like I was thinking in PHP and not Java or C, etc. Of course at that time I was also learning pH (parallel Haskel) which I think slowed down my migration between Java/C to PHP just because there was a whole different way of thinking intruding.
