I need a list of great classical music

Post by jason »

More to the point, orchestra hits, I mean, really good stuff. Stuff like Ride of the Valkyries and really energetic stuff. I like to code to good music like that, and I would just like to get a good list of that stuff. And, I thought that other people might be interested in a list like this as well, so I figured we could put it here. Heck, even good and exciting sound tracks.

I will keep a list of things I have here, and update it as I add more. I know I am missing more, so please, let me know. :D

If you guys could post music themes that are common in commercials and some movies (exciting music, you know stuff that pumps you up), that would be great as well.

What you need is some ANdrew W K
His lyrics are about as smart as a bucket of poo, but the music will keep you going all night long!

The Liebstod and Prelude from the Wagner opera Tristan and Isolde is a famous piece - the high point of the romantic movement. Not sure if I could code to it. You have to stop and listen.

Almost anything Mozart I guess. Studies have proved that playing Mozart to laboratory mice while they sleep makes them 14.3% more intelligent. Couldn't say how many lines of code they got out of them per hour.

Sibelius 5th symphony might be good. Broad panoramic landscapes & stuff. I think it's the 5th - someone borrowed my tape years ago and didn't give it back.

I keep Barber's works close at hand. Specifically, Adagio for Strings.

Haendel - his more popular works like Firework Music and Water Music are fantastic. Playful, but plain genius are Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. If you like choral works, probably one of the best, and most spiritual is "Miserere Mei" by Palestrina, I'd recommend the version by "The Sixteen" (a choir), simply stunning. Pachelbel's Canon in D is also a "modern" classic. Well, that's that off the top of my head. :)

Hah My finacee's took me to see the broadway show based on ABBA's music. There were all these middle aged women with big hair there dancing in their seats. And of course they sang Dancing Queen

The new revlon commercial (in black and white) has a pretty good song...
