Couldnt resist..
it takes getting past the surface to see beauty in things.
perhaps you haven't listened in depth to the lyrics and just pick apart some ideas...
poking fun is okay, but i bet you were trying to be cool...
it's easy to do that when you are ignorant to things...

(if ani has anything to say about breaking hearts, it's her breaking others, but i try to stick to the later, more political, jazz arrangements that she has put out in the last 6 years... not that you would know about those, anti-politics never make the charts)

Ugh. Leave your assumptions at the door. I'm a huge Ani fan, and I know her music quite well. Only BY knowing her music well can you honestly make an attempt at a joke about her music.

Again, please leave your assumptions about what I know and don't behind. It will serve you far better to judge my post on its content, and not on your snap-judgement based on assumptions.

It was a joke. I notice you didn't take umbrage to my comment about Al Green, which is equally 'shallow' in appreciation for a musician that has far more depth, in an attempt at humor.

I thought they were obvious "haha" jokes for anyone that appreciated either artist. Clearly I was mistaken.

Only listening to stuff that would appear on MTV != diverse.

I'd be a little impressed to see Ying Yang Twins or Brand New on MTV.

Of course, I've seen Siouxsie and the Banshees, Crazy Frog, and Kermit the Frog (Rainbow Connection) on MTV, and if THAT doesn't count as diverse, I have a hard time with the definition.

How about you spell out what diverse means to you, Onion2k (Besides the circular "Music that doesn't play on MTV"). :)

All depends on what MTV we are considering. If we are considering all of the MTV's, then yes sure my music would be played on MTV.

THAT'S BECAUSE MTV IS NO LONGER A ONE GENRE STATION

THEY PLAY ALL GENRES OF MUSIC

So your point is I have to listen to underground no name bands to be cool?

Calm down... the mtv part was just a clever zing. All he meant (all I meant anyway) was that your list isn't diverse. If you put down Reba McEntire, John Lennon, Black Sabbath, and BB King, then your list would be diverse, and those are all pretty mainstream I think. I will encourage you to find some underground bands though... it's nice to hear something other than the same ol' crap. We still friends?

Are you asking me what is good music? I don't understand the question.

Seriously.. check these guys out. They are fantastic:

- Green Carnation (The CD I have is Light of Day, Day of Darkness - consists of one 60 minute masterpiece)
- Agalloch
- The Mars Volta (still kinda underground)
- Porcupine Tree
- Opeth
- Isis (panopticon - not the red sea)

The list could go on and on and on.

Edit:

These aren't underground, but I can't make a post about good music and not include these bands:

Tool
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd

Lots of different bands/genres.

Third Day
Casting Crowns
Classical (Bach and Tchaikovsky, especially)
Orchestral (Soundtracks)
And sometimes nonsense. Like Bananaphone. Awesome song.
