a giant chunk of the time, the gearing for the auto is quite different from the manual. This can be do to some of the mechanical things inside an auto, but can also be for ride feel for the end-user. But it is possible to have an all automatic race car. For instance, nitro-cars are all auto. 99.999% of the reason is they would shift so fast through the gears a person couldn't throw it.

I got a ride in a two-seater funny car once - it was like being shot out of a cannon
It had a manual clutch and two 'manual' gears, forward and backward. The forward gear was split into three (or maybe four) automatic gears.
I think a good chunk of the reason for the auto box is because once that things moving, you can't move your arms forward to reach the stick

No we don't. I am in the UK and while the term 'drag racing' is used as a generic umbrella term for the various racing categories, and I supose 'dragster' may be used as a generic term for the various types of cars, if you knew anything about drag racing you would not be reffering to these vehicles as 'dragsters' in the generic sense.Grim... wrote:
