I'm just wondering and interested in widening my scope of languages. (but still learning php as I go.. obviously :P!!!11!!)

But I was thinking about C++ but what do you think will be useful in the near futur that would look good on a resumé?

C/C++ are the main stays of the business world, after which comes VB (blech) and some others.. C# is coming in to mainstream usage too, along with the rest of .NET. Web applications are steaming ahead very well too. So knowing PHP and maybe Perl and a few others can and would be very useful. Knowing COBOL is great, if you want a fairly steady high paying job.. Although eventually those systems will be phased out. I have no idea when though.. Ada and ML are heavily used in the US government, backend mainframes..

If your going to learn a new language i dont think you should just chose one as other people say its good. First i think you should ask yourself why you want to learn a new language and then look for the best language for that purpose. For example if you want to get a job using it, then check out the local IT job papers and see what languages are most needed and what they pay - i find that most of the jobs in my area are looking for c# and .NET at the moment and are paying huge sums of money - up to like £60,000 ($100,000). So if you want to make a nice living, then i suggest that.
