high school
A few years ago I was doing some subsitute teaching at a high school in Canada teaching programming to grades 9 to 11's and there where a couple of really great programmers in there, 2 boys, 2 girls. One girl at the age of 14 had her own programming business with 4 resonable clients. She was a perl user and learning php but she could program for loops around most of the the older 'experienced' programmers that I knew.
I'm with jason, hire on talent and experience.
Currently working in a all male office it would be nice to have some of that femine touch and different view on things.

For female web-programers - not seen any in my life (if synapses in my brain still work) but talked to few over chat in my country - but those are mostly web-designers and HTML coders.
Other female's I encountered are in system administration, servers etc... but guess what - no networks ?!?!?
Do they look for some peacefull private place to work ?
Realy don't know and as Jason said - numerous theories can be from anyone who has access to the internet

Hmm, i guess i'm kind of a mix of both. Yeah yeah, i'm female also. I've been programing since i was about 15. Right now I own my own programming/web design business and I have to say I'm strongly for putting more women programmers out into the work force. I'd say most of my clients come to me for programming but its also what i prefer to do over design -- although a little of both can break up the tedium of sitting in front of a piece of code thats driving you insance.
As for hobbies, I have lots of them. Reading, writing, drawing, playing the violin, horse back riding, swimming.... gah the list goes on.
As far as the limited field of female programs goes... i say good for us women that have the guts to take on a field this challenging. It also means more men for us....yum.
