Hey all,

I got this headset thing called net2phone by Plantronics. It works great except it has a microphone attached to the headset and it doesn't seem to want to work. It has two things to plug into the computer, I guess one for the microphone obviousely and one for the headphones, but the microphone doesn't work at all, heh.

Does this thing need software or could it be damaged? I got it off the internet so that could be the case.

And if no one has any idea what this thing is, sorry. :P And yes I searched the web. Bloody company doesn't look like it has any information on it.

yes, each plug is for the respective hookup.. normally you wouldn't require additional software, as it just hooks in through your sound card. I'd think the wire has a short in it possibly.. make sure the mic wire is connected to the right sound card plug, and make sure your sound card is set to not mute that channel. Also make sure the volume level is at a decent level then test it. You may need to move the wire around to see if the wire makes a connection..

Hey, thanks for the reply.

One of the wires has a red lining around it and the other has a black. The black is for the headphones and I am guessing the red is for the microphone. When I stick the black(headphones) wire into the middle slot on my video card, and speak into the headphones, I can hear it through my speakers. But when I plug the red(microphone) wire into the same slot in my video card, it will not work.

I'm not sure where I'd go to make sure that my video card is not set to mute on the channel, either ;).

I'm guessing maybe this wire is damaged?

Ok, well I bought a brand new headset. The headset itself works fine, yet once again the microphone section of it does not work. I am now assuming that there is some kind of problem with my computer communicating with the headset microphone, but that makes no sense.

I have a desktop microphone, like I said before, and it will work perfectly. Is there some sort of option I must set in my computer in order to allow this HEADSET microphone to work? If not specifically, where would I find options on my computer(Win XP) to see what's up with those parts of the sound card?
