Also, did anyone else find the book kinda depressing... yet addictive?

I read that book last year and it is a very depressing book. His whole life sucks and he is what he hates most, a phony. He talks down on people who are phony like his brother, and things like movies, and then he goes and pretends he has terminal cancer or whatever to some stranger for fun. Some weird stuff goes on in that book htat really got me thinking. A great read I must say.

I read it as a freshman in high school and it is kinda depressing but I did enjoy it at the time.

The start of the book shows what a happenes at the end. Holden has a breakdown and is sent to some kind of hospital in the west - where he begins telling his story from.

I read it last year, I love that book. At the end, Holden is institutionalized, but you get the calming feeling that he'll be just fine. I didn't find the book that depressing because, bieng about Holden's age, I can see that this really is what's going on. Much better for me to read about a fictional character than to hear a real-life story like that from a friend. But it was a really good book.
