Visual Quickstart Guides

Post by Berethorn »

Hello! I'm trying to find a good book for learning/referencing PHP. I have a couple Visual Quickstart guides for HTML already, and I like them. There are two PHP books by Larry Ullman. "PHP and MYSQL Quickpro," and "PHP Quickstart." The latter was published in 2004, the former 2003. Which is the better? Do they cover the same topics? Is the older one out of date? :)

Don't get anything pre-2004. They are very outdated, and it's best you get a book that teaches you the most up-to-date techniques as possible.

That's also why a lot of people tend to read online tutorials and blogs more often than books. It's the most up-to-date source of information you can get. ;)

Personally, I have Professional PHP XML from Wrox publishing, and two Larry Ullman Visual Quickstarts. They are both awesome but the beginner edition of Larry Ullman's book is definately outdated and it's best you look at the official site of that book for a lot of corrections. They are all published on his site, but the address has slipped my mind for the time being. It's in the book if you need it.
