I've allways loved to hear what people have to say about programming, regardless of what language we are talking about.

That said, Larry Wall has to be one fo the most fun to read. Now recently, he was interviewed by /. (Slashdot.org for those that don't know) and it was jolly good read as far as I'm concerned. He covered a lot of topics, including php. Interesting what he has to say PHP and it's namespacing mechanism.

Anyways, for those that interested, check it out.

I've always been an "avoid perl" nazi, but reading larry wall makes me feel like a jerk. Seriously, I love the guy. Plus, perl documentation is really funny.

An "avoid perl nazi"? What for? Not mad or anything, just curious.

I'm not really familiar with Perl myself, but I've been told that my coding style reminds some people of Perl as I prefer the "#" for comments.

Anyways, I think Larry is cool and his viewpoints on what a language should are the best. What is a language if it's not flexible? People that say a language should be such and such, or, as was recently said to me, "Just use the built in constructs provided" (regardless of how slow and cumbersome they may be) need to remember that there was a reason that the language was being made simpler in the book "1984".

Cheers,

You have to remeber Perl is like Zen koans..

especially the one where the master cuts off the middle index finger of student :)

Unfortunately, most programmers aren't very good zen students.
