I edit in notepad, but say, for a page with alot of tables, doesn't matter the extension. The background color for each cell is #555555, if i want to change it, in notepad i can go to everyline in change it, but wordpad has the wonderful "replace all" feature.

Well of course.

A few functions that should be added to notepad:
  • Replace All
Allow all sizes of files to be read
    Line #
    Goto Line

And one more thing...

Shortcut Keys

e.g. CTRL+F = find, CRTL+S = save

etc.

The perfect answer is metapad, it is exactly the same as notepad except with those couple of features added. It also loads in less than a second which is great for doing real quick editing

what version of notepad doesn't have ctrl f and ctrl s?

context is still number 1 to me :) people who say notepad is the best are just fooling themselves.

The notepad that comes with windows me and older doesn't have ctrl+s etc. And I agree that context is quite good.

Never had liked a file editor that looks like microsoft word.

well i guess for the ones that use notepad a toolbar would be too much to handle. that's about the only likeness i can pick out of word and context.

Programs dont need the flashy toolbars. We just need Pull down menus, with a goto line, and a Ctrl+S feature. ;)

And for us MacOS martyrs, BBEdit is absolutely the best text editor (on any platform???)

Jonny

Why not trying this one?

It's free. I put a lot of effort to program it, as I needed it.
No debugging (yet) and some other cool stuff, but you could be surprised with simplicity, speed and usability.
