Preamble to the
This forum has had one major goal since it was created: To help people learn how to program PHP. That's it. That's the primary goal. Everything that is done here is based on making sure we are successful in achieving that goal.
With that in mind, the second major goal has been to bring together a community of like-minded people to talk about things that interested them. If ever this forum has lacked in something, we, the moderators and site administrators have strived to add it. If ever this forum lacked something another member wanted, we have worked to include it.
Both these goals are geared towards learning, geared towards helping, geared towards community.
That is why we propose three simple guidelines, three simple ideals. These are suggestions for how people should approach these forums.
1. You are here to learn as much as the next person. Do not pretend at any time that you know everything there is to know on a subject. It's a common belief that the more you know about a subject, the less you realize you know. So whenever you respond, or whenever you get an answer, keep this in mind: others can also be right. Hopefully, by having this in mind when you use these boards, you will benefit in learning things an otherwise clouded mind might miss.
2. Treat others as you would want to be treated. It's an old saying, but it's very true. Even if the other person is being rude and intolerable, you have the obligation to be polite. Even if you are right, being rude makes you wrong. Rant and rave all you want, but don't do it here on the boards. Being polite matters. Really. We would rather stand behind someone who is polite, but wrong, than stand behind someone who is rude, but right.
3. Helping others helps you. Spending a little time working with someone else will go a long way to helping yourself. If someone asks you a question, it's for a reason. Working with this person will usually mean you get your problems solved quicker. Our time is important to us as yours is to you. Help us help you. In the same way, help others if you can. This community is based on helping others, and if you can help just one other person, you will have contributed back.
We hope you take these guidelines to heart. A community that works together grows together. The one thing that has kept the PHPDN alive and well these years has been the community. Seriously. The administrators and moderators of this forum were once normal community members like you. And because of them, the community lives on.
We pride ourselves in the fact that these forums are a product of the community, and we mean it 100%. Help build this community.
Help us help you
