Automated phone verification, PayPal style

Post by m3mn0n »

It's been a good long while since I had the urge to be verified on PayPal, but since an increasing number of clients insist on using that payment method, I figure it is a good thing to have accomplished.

Anyway, the last time I checked it the requirements for verification was a fax containing personal info like a drivers licence, citizenship and/or various business credentials. But after a quick check of it today, all that is required is a simple automated phone call, and how this process works is what is intriguing to me.

I submit a form, and on the next page it had a 4-digit number which I was instructed enter on my phone once I got the call recording. 5 seconds after the page was finished loading, I got the call, entered the number, and then presto, the female recorded voice said I am verified.

I did some Googling on how one could sign up for a business service like this, since I think this is a great little security feature for a site of mine, and also something that could be offered to clients, but I couldn't find anything. :?

Anyone know where one could find out some info about this service, or one like it? Spanks in advanced. :)
