nope its definite 98se, when im in DOS the cd is labelled as WIN98SE

edit: i would just like to set the record straight, even according to microsoft, 98 is NOT bootable from CD, this is only done from custom versions, read the installation guide for 98, it clearly states a boot disk is required

hmmm, if MS says it cant boot then i dont know why my cd can, heres 3 pics showing the 3 steps it takes to start a install when i boot from the cd...

http://www.sema.dk/step1.gif
http://www.sema.dk/step2.gif
http://www.sema.dk/step3.gif

the version is in danish so it dos not give much sense, but the firste step is from the bios, asking if i will boot from the CD or HDD, then i say CD and it takes me to the CD boot screen... Here there are 3 options, start install, start dos with cd support, and start dos without cd support... i select start install and it takes me to the win98 install...

I cant explain why it can do it, but it can, and it is not a "custom" cd, its a legal win98se cd bought in Denmark...

step 2 i can get upto by using the boot disk, basically it loads the boot disk then displays that screen (asks if you want to boot with CD ROM support or not basically) it then commences to command prompt/DOS saying...

Code: Select all

a:
i then do what i mentioned before (e:\SETUP.EXE) and it says it cant be run in DOS mode, i dont get the option to begin installation...

this error is actually mentioned alot on the net go here for another users experience

yes i can se your problem, my point just was that it is possible to start an install from the CD... (the onlye difference is by using the cd u get the "install win98se option so you can skip the /setup.exe stuff")
