Streaming video

Post by hawleyjr »

I'm looking into running streaming video for a client. The most popular product I've found is Macromedia's Flash Communication Server. This is about $500 USD.

Does anyone know of a cheaper or better option?

Hello,

Believe me.... Macromedia Flash Comm is the best... you have a lot of ready components that are very easy to use for your development.

we use playstream which offers streaming in many different formats.

it's relatively cheap and their support is awesome. If you're looking to buy a solution however, I can't make any recommendations. We use playstream for two reasons 1) as I said above...cheap 2) they have huge bandwidth so our users dont' have any issues streaming video from our internet connection (just a T1 right now).

does MM's server only do .flvs, or can you stream other content types?
