Value of Certification?

Post by AngusL »

I'm looking at heading down the Cisco certification route, starting CCNA, heading towards hopefully eventually CCIE.

Basically, I'm looking for any views on Cisco certification - minus the flamewar if possible. :)

I got a CCNA in 2000 and haven't put it to good use yet. I think back then it was a hot commodity, but now it seems those in need of a good network guy with cisco skills are few and far between...and the ones who surface usually already have someone they use as an independent contractor. At least that's the trend I'm seeing in the US around my area.

If you're still hell-bent on getting it, definitely use the transcendor tests, they will prep you like no other.

if nothing else, it will certainly spice up the resume...

Thanks, that's what I suspected. I might still go for it, or maybe just read the course information.
