I was in what was supposed to be a five-year program for the combined undergrad and grad degrees. I finished all the course work and the undergraduate theses on time. My graduate these fell apart during the last year and I had to start over (twice as it turns out). However, as the government was paying for my education I had to leave school and start work with only the undergraduate degrees after my five years. I found an advisor and worked part-time on my third, and final, version of my graduate these for a few years, then returned from my "leave of absense" handed in the theis and graduated again.

So I was in school for 5 years, but all told it took about 8 years..... And I can't wait to go back for a PhD....
