How much do you learn from these forums?

I'd say I learn something new almost every day. Reading people's questions and trying to provide an answer causes me to read the PHP manual more than I ever would have, and definately helps me out when coding.

It depends - sometimes conversations here are really intelligent, well-researched, knowledgable, and useful..

Other times it sounds like a caveman having an argument with a Republican about cookies.

I'd guess I learn something truly new once every two weeks, but thats mostly my fault.. I generally only read the threads that are likely to be interesting to me, which means its about topics I already know.

Although admittedly, I do read the OOP, client-side, and regex threads fairly often, and I'd consider those areas I could definitely improve in. :)

I like that analogy. Reminds me of the Sluggy strip trying to explain politics...

I'd say personally.. near flat-line for me.. however, the theory/testing boards are adding more and more as time goes..

I only learn when people answer my problems. All the other posts usually consist of things that are too complicated for me :P

The boards tend to 'reinforce' what I know, and extend on my knowledge of something more then teach me something completely new. Most of my learning goes on when I have a script that doesn't work and I debug it and therefor learn on my own. This is probably the best way to learn in my opinion, nothing can beat personal experience.

I also tend to only reply to things where I can grasp the full nature of what's going on.

I find in time, I tend to grasp more and more.
