computer

Post by shiznatix »

my dad has a really old dell piece of junk computer and he needs to get a new one. im far far away so i can't build him one and he wants a name brand computer. i don't know much about the reliability of these computers or anything so if anyone has any sugestions on what brand and/or model of computer i should recomend that would be great. don't go overboard he just plays some games and uses the internet so nothing too expensive.

Dell still makes good desktop machines. If he wants a laptop, I've had some excellent performance from my HP laptop :)

you should still be able to, just edit your original post. If not, I or another moderator can make it a poll. Just come up with the option list..

Dell certainly make very good PCs (although somewhat pricy) - check out their "returned items" (called something along those lines), where they sell off returned but fixed products. Some good deals there.

I'm usually using ebuyer.com - if you upgrade one of their cheap computers (~£270) with a new graphics card, some more memory you have a good computer.

Fujitsu-Siemens make some nice laptops; they're good for their price and have nice designs as well...

Alienware is too over-priced!

I quite like getting the bits myself and building the pc myself, places like ebuyer.com and scan.co.uk are good for this (scan has its today only page often with cheap base units on it).

although sexist, you don't buy a woman a DBR... a DB, sure, but not a DBR. They most often will not like it... unless she's Danica Patrick

Before I switched to Apple, I normally liked HP best. At least back then they still used name-brand components inside the computer unlike Dell, whose innards were always breaking... I also had surprising success with "vpr" Best Buy's house brand. Not quite as good as HP, but still better than Dell and cheaper...
