Canadian Postal Code Database

Post by s.dot »

Finding a Free US Zip Code => city/state/longitude/latitude database was not a problem, they were everywhere.

However I'm having troubles finding a Canadian one. Does anyone know where I can download a FREE Canadian Postal Code database?

I googled extensively when I was looking for Canada's and I saw databases of hundreds of countries (surely India was included) available for subscription.

I am just too cheap to pay for one :P

Err I can't seem to find the page I was looking for, but this page seems quite similar.

http://www.embassyworld.com/data/Zip_Codes.html

I'm not sure if databases are available there.

I think Canada Post is selling a db.

http://www.canadapost.ca

If the info is not on the site, give them a ring.

Just to reconfirm...

You cannot download a freely available database of Postal Codes for Canada. It doesn't exist - i've looked and contacted CPost about it.

I'm not sure if you could create your own - which I thought of doing, using their postal code maps and a lat/long plotter, but that's probably copyright infringment. :(

Your basically stuck having to pay the $$$ for their database :(

Yeah. You'd be hard-pressed to find a free anything nowadays in regards to large databases.

Your best bet would be to buy it, I think.

Geo-Databases don't come cheap.. my university is buying such databases all the times for tens of thousands of dollars.
