Best Commercially Available Uploader Script?

Post by jaafit »

Hi, I'm new to the forums. I came here because I have recently been assigned the task of creating an automated swap page for our site (http://www.knifeedge.com).

Our product has 4 types of files that users like to share. We would like to facilitate this sharing because it helps build our community and allows users get the most out of our product. What we'd like is an uploading system that will integrate with vBulletin so that they can use their BB username/password to upload a file. That file should then instantly become available for others to download, comment on, rate, etc. We'd also like to allow users to browse the uploaded files easily, including sorting by highest rating, most downloads, most recent.

A great example of what I want can be found here http://aom.heavengames.com/downloads/

I'm hoping to buy rather than write most of the code. So my question to you all is this. What's the best commercially available system for this purpose?

Again, the requirements:
* allow users to upload files
* allow users to rate and comment upon those files
* allow users to easily browse through uploaded files
* track number of downloads for each file
* integrate with vBulletin
* PHP (of course :D )

Thanks

I see that this is a tough question. That's understandable, as I have been looking everywhere for what I want and haven't quite found it. I do want to share what I have found in case anyone else comes across this thread and either wants to help or has the same question I had. The options I have assembled, in order of preference:

* HGDL http://aom.heavengames.com/downloads -- the best, IMO. Can we get it?
* ecDownloads http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75198 free, completely integrated with vBulletin
* phpnuke's uploader module -- lots of "permissions" features (owner,group,r/w), folders, thumbnail support, admin access
* EZUpload http://www.scriptscenter.com/ezupload/ -- $39, no vBulletin, most features aren't very useful
* Simple Upload http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/31396.html -- FREE, but no vBulletin integration
* Any Photo Gallery System -- would have to modify to accept our own file types.

Still looking for suggestions. Thanks.

The best commercially available uploader script would be the one that I put on the market after I write it. :-D If the price is right, so's the code! :lol:

Really, what sort of answer were you expecting from a bunch of master coders?

I just added ecDownloads to the list.

The kind of answer I'm looking for? Links to what I want. I think I have a pretty good list now and we're probably not looking to hire a freelancer, but if anyone has more suggestions please share.

EZ UPLOAD

Post by utbusta »

Did you find out anymore information? Did this work for you? In EZUPLOAD is there a way to upload MAC files that dont have an extension? The cpanel only allows the restriction of certain files you chose or allows ALL files but even with all files selected it wont let you upload a file without extensions. I deal with alot of MAC files for Commercial Printing and MACS dont always add an extension. I could easily say always compress your files but I want this to be as easy as possible for people sending me files.

I am open to hiring someone to work on the code to modify it.
