Well, since Haven is taken (noticed the rhyme?) I'll register LIFE - Life Is (a) Fantastic Experiment.

You know what... if this gets off to a solid start this could be HUGE.

If you do get a sourceforge project going I'm over-eager the join this (unique) idea part-time outside of work hours.

I would be willing to contribute a little of my time here and there. Sounds pretty interesting.

I registered the project last night and now am waiting for an approval.

Soon I'll open a forum for the project, as well. Because nothing big can start without a community ^^

This is PERFECT for all those who don't really get what OOP is all about too :)

Think about it... how much more true can it be that everything in the rainforest really is an object, with properties, and *methods*? And everything extends from the environment it's put into... hell, you can even extend onto things within the rainforest. It's the perfect OOP demonstration.

And it's accessable for people of all skill levels. An experienced programmer may want to try and re-create a monkey, whereas a complete beginner can just create a new breed of grass and still be part of it all.
The more I think about this, the better it seems.

One worry - processing power. Will PHP be able to handle it?

i thought of this idea ages ago but unfortunantly the more i thought about it, the more i realised that doing so would be more like a lifes work. although it does depend on how detailed your willing to go, interaction between animals, chemical reactions, photosynthesis, etc.

ill be watching this project, if completed it is a great idea.

RE: Processing Power....

it depends on how much like real life you want to make it. To be honest it will incredibly difficult to emulate something very realistic without bringing in chaos theory etc etc... It's gonna start basic anyway and build up so I guess we just need to see how it goes (and perhaps end up upgrading hardware as needed).
