Let's make a rain forest (using PHP and MySQL)

I've been thinking about this all morning.
If everyone picks a different thing (a type of tree / plant / bush / flower / insect / monkey) and makes a function emulating the way it lives / grows / reproduces / dies, and then we put it all together, we'll end up with a rain forest.
Does anyone get what the hell I am trying to say?
[edit]This rambling post has become a proper project. More details at http://life-project.org/forums/index.php [/edit]

It appears you were talkin about life simulation... the need for environment simulation (such as physics) will be still there, though.

I have seen such programs where you keep a pet on your screen and take care of it or else it dies

its scary.....

ive thought about the concept many times. Essentially, we are creating our own version of the Matrix

I don't know, it was kind of a brain dump to get it off my mind.
I guess that if you worked out the ground (height, fertility, water retention, etc) and the environment (weather), then people could just 'plug in' their functions.

As for output, a good GD programmer could smack out a nice picture, but I thought just storing the results in a MySQL table and letting people use it in their own projects (like
Little Savages) would be interesting.
Hell, just seeing if stuff would actually
grow would be interesting enough...

The next version of Little Savages is going to be huge and complex.
Maybe with a fully-functioning environment

So let's make a $Matrix['matrix'] Kind of matrix, if you get my drift.
I'm for the idea, it sounds <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> awesome. But we need to know biology and phsysics and stuff.
