exactly! And if you usually have some kind of knapsack or backpack, you can easily accommodate the car battery. It's a win-win.

tell me, does anyone here actually have 200GB of songs? i have 3 computers and i don't even have that much combined space !!!
Space is relative (some very smart guy came up with that one). Who says you only want to store music on it? Why not pictures, small movies you've made of you daughter's first steps etc. etc. Space is very relative.

Yeah. The great thing about iPods is they double as portable file storage devices. :)

I eat 75GB hard drives for breakfast, followed up by a nice platter of RAM. Yes, people DO have need of a lot of space, like me :)

turning the focus back to the ipod discussion:

I still don't understand all the hype with iPods. From what I understand you HAVE to use iTunes to put the music on the player which is crap imo.

you should be able to use the ole' drag and drop of windows explorer like you can with every other mp3 player out there...

what is the draw to the iPods? is it because they are sexy looking? easy to use? Not MS products? What????

I have an old Rio that suits me fine, granted I can't dump 4gb of music on it, but that's because of my cheap-ass-ish-ness to go out and buy a bigger flash stick.

so what is the big hype all about?

great...so I'd have to pay more money to get the same functionality that I can get with all of the others.

yes I did see the "trial" version and its features, I'm just trying to be jackassish here.

but regardless of that, it still doesnt' answer my question, what is it about iPods that is so appealing?

They were first on the market with a mature product and combined that with iTunes which allowed people to legally download music. The novel things was the ease-of-use, beauty and functionality of iPods. Competition has been catching up, nowadays.
