Do I always need permission to copy or use copyright material?

No, there are certain exceptions to the rights given to the copyright owner. For example, limited use of works may be possible for non-commercial research and private study, criticism or review, reporting current events, judicial proceedings and teaching in schools. But if you are copying large amounts of material and/or making multiple copies then you may still need permission. Also it is generally necessary to include an acknowledgement of the name of the copyright work and its author.
either way this discussion is pointless.let's run around in some more circles! rock on!:-D

BTW.I'm getting an ipod:-D

That doesn't say 'you may copy music onto your pc'.

Anyhoo, Feyd is right.

Ipod Nano's then - too small for me, I'd break it within a day.

No dissing of iPods - if you have a Creative Zen, iRiver Media, or any other - learn to live with the social rejection...;) To other things, what's left in Apple's arsenal for the iPod? We've had iPod, iPod Mini, iPod Nano - will there be an iPod Planck?

iPod Fun - Adds gaming as a central focus (think PSP)
iPod Wireless - Adds beam/receive for both video and music out to TV, or in from network, cell, etc.

It would probably be called "iEye" (which would, in an onomapoetic way, answer your question).
