"TBS HOTLINE, how may I help?"

"Hi, I'm on devnet forums, and me and this guy have identical lives.. is this funny?"

Yes you have to have seen those stupid commericals to understand this...

lol thats pretty funny, i sometimes wake up right before my alarm too, obviously not when hungover or extremely tired.

i have a cd alarm clock, and the cd is stuck in! but whats weird is the sound of the cd spinning up (really quiet) before the cd plays wakes me up every morning, and im out of bed before its actually started playing because it spends about 5 seconds spinning up because of all the times ive whacked it trying to get the bloody cd out!

I have this same... condition... And It would be interesting to know how this is possible.

It's also been tested more than once, both at home with my girlffriend as "judge" and at a pal's place. Since at least June I've been waking up 05:59, Mon-Fri, a minute before the clock rings, wide awake... For those that think "lucky you", think again.
The backside of this is that once I'm awake, I can't get back to sleep. For example if I wake up sick I still need to get up at that time...

On the topic, Winamp has a plugin that uses the pc's internal timer at clock. I've used it some years ago so it should be out there somewhere.

I would be extremely interested in finding any research on this... seems this is much more widespread than I originally though.
And when I say I wake up a minute or two before the alarm.. I mean always.

Jam: Shame you can't get back to sleep.. I usually fall right back asleep and get those few minutes of sleep back ;)

this is really much more widespread than you would think in your derams. ever heard of internal/body clock? this matter connected to that... when we start getting up @ alarm time, our mind kinda associates itself with the alarm time and we get up jujst before it... when I had to study I set the alarm on my mobile and always it seemed worthless since I would start getting up abt 2-3 minutes earlier than the alarm in 1 or 2 days... It's all normal human psychology guys, just relax 8)

PS: I too have got "can't sleep once I wake up" disorder :?

dang, i wish i had that. every time i wake up im in the middle of a absolutly amazing dream then right before the fantastic finish its like BAM alarm clock or somthing else. enough to make one never want to wake up, expecally since my dreams latley have been freaking awesome. i guess my dreams have been making up for my otherwise boring awake life.

Oddly enough I've had a dream about php before where bugs would come out of nowhere

Kind of crazy how tuned in your internal body clock can get

My sleeping life is as chaotic as my waking life isn't. At one point in my life, I was sleepwalking. One night, I woke up down the street in shall we say, non-ideal attire. It was snowing, and I had clearly made it all the way down the street nearly naked, yet didn't wake from the cold.

Earlier this year, I started to have night terrors. Most people know that half-awake state that exists right before you fall asleep, where things are not quite real, but you are still mildly awake. Imagine that state, filled with ominous sounds and people IN YOUR HOUSE. That horror movie feeling when the guy is going in the room that *everyone* is screaming DONT GO IN THERE? Thats the feeling. It started with me just waking up screaming as hard as I could like someone was literally trying to kill me. I didn't have any memory of why, or even of starting to scream. I hoped that would be the end of it, but it progressed to deeply disturbing dreams.

One night I honestly thought someone was in my room, standing over me, trying not to make a sound. When I was finally able to force myself awake, I had to check every room in the house. I've had night terrors where I thought my arm was cut off literally a second before I woke up, and looking at my arm I thought I was in shock and denial!

Dreams are insanely powerful, and have a dramatic effect on our waking days. If you have a good sleeping schedule, be thankful. It could be much, much worse.

As a postscript to the story, my night terrors did eventually go away. It seems they were mostly triggered by me taking on an aggressive excercise schedule. Doing so can be stressful, and since they went away when I reduced it, I suspect the two are related. I may be 100% wrong.

For more information on Night Terrors, be sure to visit the Night Terror Resource Center. It kept me from feeling insane when I was really just having a sleep issue. :)

Yea I'm sure most of us have experienced night terrors in the past, me being one of them.. and you are absolutely correct when you say dreams are extremely powerful things. I've had experiences that when I woke up from my dream in complete panic, and it would take me a little while to finally come around and realize I didn't just blow up the world. :x

Sleep disorders are shortcut to mental asylum...

On the contrary, they are the solid release that many people need to alleviate issues. Like my night terrors being brought on by excess excercise, I couldn't realize the connection and issue while I was awake. My mind needed a release, and found one.
