so i broke my computer
so ok i had my laptop on me yesterday and i had it in hibernate. i did not end up using it though so it stayed in my bag as i walked around town to different places all day long. after a night of extreme drunkeness i make it home and i try to turn on my laptop. all that happens is it goes to the boot screen and sits there. if i turn it off and kinda shake it around or move it it somtimes will start booting but it freezes right before the windows boot screen thing. then i turn it off and try it again and still nothing. anyone happen to have any ideas on how to fix this situation possibly?

You got a USB pen plugged into it? That can make the system hang at boot, if it tried to boot from it.
Try booting a Linux live CD and see if it can mount and read from the disk....
If that fails....
Maybe your HDD took a beating on your journey around.... not a lot you can do for that far from sealing it in a watertight container, placing it (just the HDD) in the freezer for 20 mins to get the tempearture right down then try boot from it.... pull of any data you don't wish to lose, before it warms up too much. It works sometimes.
If you have an XP Recovery disk (*gulps*) even though they are pretty useless you could try reading your disk from that too...
The fact that it's not giving any errors, and just hanging is either the USB thing, or a problem with the hardware.

i have it setup so it asks for a password on boot and it somtimes (most of the time) does not even make it to that phase. if i just put the whole laptop into the fridge would that maybe do the trick? i really am at a loss here about what to do about it.
edit: and there is nothing connected to the usb

Try booting from a linux CD first.... or, take out the HDD from the laptop (they usually come out very easily), and connect it to a desktop PC and see if it works....shiznatix wrote:i have it setup so it asks for a password on boot and it somtimes (most of the time) does not even make it to that phase. if i just put the whole laptop into the fridge would that maybe do the trick? i really am at a loss here about what to do about it.

Basically... see if ur disk is <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> before doing anything else.

i will try the leave it sit for a day first and then if that does not work i will begin to disasemble it. it is my expierence that if i take apart a computer that does not work and then put it back together it will work so i can only hope and pray that this is the case with my laptop as well because i have like a trillian songs on there that i definatly do not want to lose. i shall report back if i get it to work
