Hosting a blogger website

Post by ljCharlie »

Okay, here's what I'm looking for. I want to create a website that will alow my users to post their blogs just as blogger.com does. What are my options? What are the steps, requirements, and cost?

I've read a few articles but still not very clear on this issue. I'm not sure if what I want requires a blogger server, blogging software, or basically just some tempaltes with web server, ftp server, and mysql database. I've went to the http://wordpress.org/ and it does seem to do what I'm looking for but I'm still unsure. I've seen that blogger.com will allow me host the blogs on my website but link the blogging to blogger.com's website. Here's what I want. I want to have the same functionality as blogger.com but without the user noticing that we are in fact using blogger.com's service. We want to have the look that we host our own the blogging. Usually the user will see a blogger.com banner or something on the page and I don't want this. That is why I'm thinking of having our own blogger server but I do not want to go this route if I don't have to. I like to know if there is an already existing service out there that will do what I wanted without me setting up a blogger server and do all the software installation and maintenance.

The cost? Nothing if you can do it yourself. (other than hosting)

But, i say do it yourself. Why would you want to "rip off" their blogging service and pass it as your own? You shouldn't remove the banner if you do decide to go that route.. after all, that is how they make money. Setting up a blogging system yourself isn't that difficult.

All you need is a database, and a few hours of spare time. :P
Set Search Time - A google chrome extension. When you search only results from the past year (or set time period) are displayed. Helps tremendously when using new technologies to avoid outdated results.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

For a simple blogging setup it's just a handful of tables and perhaps a day or so coding. You can then intergrate that with your website very nicely and add to it if needs be.

I'd personally write my own if I were you so that you can integrate it just the way you want.

If you don't want to write your own WordPress is very well established and you can set that up quickly on your own server -- no advertisements, and you can template it.

Thank you for the responses. I was basically going over my options. Because I'm totally new to bloggin, I wanted to find out all the requirements and features that if I ever going to develop my self, I need to determine if I am going to implement it or not on my website.

http://lifetype.net
is the best Free Multi-Blog hosting platform
and all you need is PHP and MYSQL to run it!

Wordpress can't compare one bit
to the completly free powerful features
that LifeType has.

And to read a review on why Lifetype(pLog)
is better then Movable Type read this
http://channels.lockergnome.com/web/arc ... type.phtml

p.s.
Formerly known as pLog http://plogworld.net
but had to change name due to Amazon holding copywrite on
the word pLog
