They are a horrible universal currency. First, I don't drink, so I couldn't tell you for sure.
However, in my town, a college town, the price varies over 200% depending on when and where you drink. A local pub? Probably full price. A downtown bar at happy hour? Probably half price.
A college bar on Saturday late afternoon, you can get a brew for 25%!

£2.50 is about an average price for beer.
Hmm, what product would be better, then?
Possibly something tax-exempt, with very little local fluctuation in price.
Such as ah... Um... Er...

There's a price index which uses McDonald's hamburgers to determine relative cost of living in various countries lol.

Actually, that's quite a good one.
A McD cheeseburger is £0.69p - what is it in other countries?

Worth the thread on its own. One more reply to these posts to split the topic.
PS: It's 3.50UAH, I believe. Haven't visited McD for 3 years or so...

Not as much as you might think
Like jayshields said... $10 is around £5 or 6 GBP.... that's close to to UK minimum wage.
Multiply it by 3 and take a little bit off. By the time you pay your council tax, rent, car insurance etc you're left with just enough to go out with friends regularly and have a comofortable life but certainly not enough to go mad buying fancy cars and living like a rock star

Especially if you have a wife.
Double especially if she is a student

I think $100 for that sort of design work (assuming the did the design, rather than Google Imaged it) is fair enough.

$10 = £5.81
Minimum wage depends on age and circumstance but normaly is £5.05 which is poo in the current economic climate, unless you want to live amoungst gangsters.
You can't use beer as a price index because Americans don't have "beer" they have that "lite <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span>".
You can't use a cheesburger as a price index as americans get more than us in the UK for there money.
Had to get that off my chest.
p.s. Yeah £100 sounds about right, take whatever you can get for the work you do I say!

Sorry for staying off topic Weirdan, but I want to reply to my question
It's £4.20 for a footlong meatball sandwich at Subway, which is what I would call a decent sandwich

Oh wow, lots of responses... Let's summarize the views:
*
Decent - Web Dummy - decent price for first-world country programmer
*
Worth it - Everah - quoting for images
*
$10/$50 - Moocat - could have done it in 10 minutes, $50 if everything was original (doubtful)
*
Fair Enough - Grim... - if everything was original
The developer who did it is a member of the Taiji club (and still charged $100

) and is Chinese. The paid for one, static HTML webpage with good design.
I was a bit incredulous when I heard the $100 pricetag, the HTML wasn't reassuring, and the images look too, well, different (the person on the right is quite low quality). However, the creative visioning is definitely there, and I like the cloud effect on the Yin/Yang sign.
Hmm... and with all the talk about beer...

(too young

)

I based my opinion off of 2 facts. Time to do the project and hourly wage. Four hours isn't a whole lot of time to do a good job and $25/hour isn't a whole lot for someone who may have to support a family. If this was a large project I could see the job being done for $30 just as respect to the customer since he's doing lots of business with you. Doing one small job still has to be worth your time to do.
If a person quoted me at $100 and they were qualified to back their quote then I would most likely accept it. By qualified I mean actually having schooling for it however.
