A question regarding PHP with respect to c++

Ye' old general discussion board. Basically, for everything that isn't covered elsewhere. Come here to shoot the breeze, shoot your mouth off, or whatever suits your fancy.
This forum is not for asking programming related questions.

trukfixer wrote:Sounds to me, like based on infolock's definition. even C is a scripting language- it doesnt directly interact with the computer either- it is compiled into binary instructions that actually do the work - PHP is also compiled (at run time) into binary code that tells the computer to do the work - same difference..

Same with python and perl and java and ruby and pascal.. all are languages that are in some form or another, *compiled* into a set of binary code instructions that are then given to the machine to process.. By infolock's definition of a programming language, then only programming in actual binary code is a true programming language- cause that's what actually does the work.

I am deeply curious to see where, exactly, infolock got his education from ..

php = compiled into binary at runtime
C = compiled into binary prior to runtime
Basic = compiled into biunary at runtime
(Oh yeah Basic is most definitely called a programming language by professors- it is in no way a scripting language :-D )

Looks to me like infolock's arguments have no merit or basis in fact..

/me puts infolock on /ignore
C is translated to machine code, but it's not using another language to have it run. You obviously have no knowledge of CS or anything to do with it, so I see no reason to even attempt a response to your statement. If you want to come here and try to just bash someone with absolutely no prior history in this field, do so on your own terms in a verbal conflict with yourself, not in a discussion board where we are trying to have an intelligent conversation. Why you want to come into this board and try to start a fight based on as silly comments as the ones you have just posted, I'll never know. Maybe a moderator can answer that for us?

If the introduction of PHP into a CS course could set off such a debate among students then I would be all for it. Here's my two cent. If I use a computer language for scripting, connecting diverse pre-existing components to accomplish a new related task, then it's a scripting language. If I use it to create a new component then it's a programming language. Any computer langauge can be both. Distributed environments such as the internet are blurring the lines. Are we using PHP to connect the server to the browser? Or are we creating a new component between the server and the browser?

College shouldn't be easy and I agree with others on that. IMHO, CS isn't so much about learning a programming language as the disciplines needed to use such tools effectively. Some colleges do this better than others.

This moderator will answer that this is the third time in this thread that you've made a personal attack, and it should be the last.

Stick to the facts, and the logic, and leave behind your opinions of people's backgrounds and knowledge.

On the forums, everyone is welcome to share their views equally, and on equal ground. If you think it is an unqualified (by definition "uninformed") opinion, then you need to argue the facts and the logic to prove that - not make a personal attack.

Trukfixer took the bait, and wanted to return tit for tat, and the mods will address that as well.

I've chosen not to moderate or lock this thread, but I will not allow public personal attacks to occur, repeat, and escalate.

Leave the personal attacks behind.

I said it before, the debate can continue if you want, but there are clear areas for debate, and there are things that are inappropriate. Either debate the logic and facts, or leave the discussion.

When a guy bashes you like that Roja, a person's normal reponse is defense. At least it is for mine. His post was uncalled for and was simply an attack against me. And for the record, I thought the type of post you just made was suposed to be made in private message, not a public message for the world to see. If you have a problem with something I write, PM me. And by no means try to say that I'm attacking the guy. i'm not. I am defending myself and stating the obvious that his post was that of slander, and had NO SIGNIFICANCE to this topic at all. He simply posted what he did to get a rise and an argument started that disuaded from the current topic.

You know, never mind. I'm leaving this forum. If you guys are gonna have a moderator like Roja who will display this kind of arrogance and childish mentalities, then you can keep it. Roja has over and over displayed a complete and utter wrong materialistic reponse to each and every attempt I have made to clarify his misunderstanding of what this topic, CS in general, and PHP are.

If I am not mistaken, a rule for moderators is not to impose your thoughts that are WRONG on a board, and to stay out if you do not know the correct response. INstead, he responses with messages that make people more dumb on the subject at hand, and give them the wrong information.

But for him to get on here, and tell me that I've made 3 attacks in this thread is ridiculous, wrong, and above all, improper. The reponse you have given, Roja, is uncalled for, unjust, and wrong. I asked for a moderator to view this thread and this guy's response. You instead, turn it against me when I was NOT in the wrong at all.

So, keep this place. If phpdn is going to allow you to be a moderator, I see phpdn as a child's play pen and not the professional board it used to be. That is another reason why i stepped down as moderator anyways. Because people like you are giving this board a very bad name. So, enjoy. Keep it. Lead people in the wrong direction. You are going to anyways.

I'm gone. screw this place.

Technically, you made the first comment in public making a personal attack. He, following your logic, was responding in kind. So the "I was defending myself" stance doesn't fly - for either one.

The forum rules are clear, and they will be consistently applied. You cannot make personal attacks, period.
infolock wrote:At least it is for mine. His post was uncalled for and was simply an attack against me.
On the contrary, it was called for by your comments. You were making 'knowledge of computer science' a requirement for replying in this thread. (Its not, and thats not acceptable by our forum rules).

Because you tried to force that as the "entrance requirements", he felt compelled to ask the same of you. Frankly, you made a requirement of others, and didn't state your qualifications that met that criteria.

Nonetheless, neither post was acceptable.
infolock wrote:And for the record, I thought the type of post you just made was suposed to be made in private message, not a public message for the world to see.
Three issues:

1. I can't moderate this thread.
2. You made a personal attack, in public, which was (and did) going to generate responses (that were likely to also break the rules) - so I tried to minimize the impact by posting publicly, and not moderating.
3. You've already been warned - repeatedly AND recently - in private about this behavior, and yet you've persisted.

So yes, it should have been handled in PM's. It should have been moderated. But the other mods haven't had a chance to respond, and I did, so I tried to minimize the damage. The moderator team may disagree with me doing so, and I'll respect their opinion if they do.

On the contrary - YOU set the requirements, YOU made the attack, YOU tried to force a response, and unfortunately, you got multiple responses.

That doesn't make it right. I've reported BOTH you and Trukfixer to the mod team, and they will act in time.

In the meantime, personal attacks are not acceptable - and thats true for both of you.
