Holy smurf... this is conjuring up some awful images. Those poor guys.... that fine does not justify what happened there.

No one checked the temperature of the oven before sending the guys in to fix the machine, and they knew that they wouldn't fit through the gap to get out on the other side. Its an old story but truely horrific.
I don't think that's the companies fault. If those two blokes were stupid enough to get into a hot oven in the first place then you can't blame the people who set the company up.

I used to work for a company where a guy climed onto some railings to try and touch the ceiling (!), fell over the edge and broke some ribs.
The company got fined for that, too.

People have to take responsibility for their own actions.

Actually I think it was the company's fault. The entire story on the "Jobs From Hell" show said that the managers of the factory had a choice, wait 24 hours for the oven to cool off, and a week or so to get the official engineers to come and service the machine, thus losing money through non-production, or get their handy man to go in and try and do it himself asap. They sent the second man in because he was an experienced pot holer, and so wasn't claustrophobic. I agree that the guys should have protested, but someone must have told them it was safe. The pot holer guy was new to the job, he probably didn't want to risk being fired.

Let's try it from Grim...'s point of view.

Boss: Grim... - go into that oven to (I don't know) change the light bulbs.
Grim...: K.
Boss: Take This Guy with you.
Grim...: K.
{In Grim... and This Guy go}
Grim...: {Within 2 seconds} smurf this, it's too hot. Back up This Guy, I'm coming out.
Boss: Too hot?
Grim...: Yup.
Boss: It's fine, you'll be alright.
Grim...: No, it's too hot. I'll do it in an hour or so.
Boss: Okay, Grim.... Have a pay rise.
Grim...: Schweet.
{Enter Isla Fisher and Alyson Hannigan, wearing only their underwear}
Isla: Fancy some two on one, Grim...?
Grim...: Hell yeah.
{Grim..., Isla Fisher and Alyson Hannigan exit}

The end.

Please be aware that it was done years before Ali G arrived on the TV.
Actually it was done the week after Bowfinger came out in the UK.
