Lag online?

Post by Moocat »

I've recently been getting lag on almost everything I play (game wise). It usually gets to the point it's unplayable, even MMOs.

As an example I just started playing WoW again and I've been getting spikes so high it just kicks me off. Other games, such as a half-life mod I play (not CS) has started to give me a lot of choke (40+) and some loss even. EQ2 either doesn't have any or isn't noticable. I also play Freelancer on a friends server and I'm the only one reporting connection problems.

I recently got a new computer (which is when I started noticing the problems) so I'm wondering if that could possibly have anything to do with it? I did a ping to google with no loss or irregular ping times and also tested my upload and download speeds with zero problems.

Anyone know what to do or what could be up?

I'm on Charter btw, which isn't the best provider I've ever had...

Sounds incredibly like packet loss to me which suggests that your network card may be at fault.

How many pings did you try? Just the standard 4? Try letting it do say, 1000 pings and see if you're dropping any packets.

No I did quite a few pings, and my wifes computer on the same router has also been having trouble. Haven't tried it on the other games but it has problems with choke on the server as well.

Maybe it's just a coincidence and all the servers are sucking right now?

Sounds like your router is creating the problem. If both you and your wifes computer are experiencing issues then most definantly is router or your ISP is having issues. Try rebooting your router, if that doesn't work then plug your ethernet cable directly into your computer bypassing the router and if the problem persists then call your ISP to see if there is any signal loss.

Apparently they were having "noise" issues yet again because of the way the line structure is set up around here (it just acted differently this time). I need to get rid of Charter badly, this is the third time I've had this type of issue (the last one lasted about a MONTH before they finally got someone to pinpoint the REAL problem). I wish I could do Speakeasy since they don't require you to get a phone, but they're not available here. Any pointers as to what I could get at Scott AFB, IL 62225?
