pool sticks

Post by shiznatix »

ok! so I have about 7 hours to find a proper pool stick online. I have 100-200USD at my disposal. What I need from you: SUGESTIONS! what kind of what? I know nothing about pool sticks, I just know how to play the blasted game. Anyone here a fan?

Searching for "pool cue" will get you further than "pool stick".

Hahaha.... I wondered if that was just a geographical difference

I'm not really sure there's a defined perfect cue... you play with what you feel comfortable with. When I look at snooker (sorry I don't play pool much) cues I'm looking at how wide the tip is (although I shape my own), how well finished it is and how heavy/well-balnced it is.

I would certainly not blow 200 on a cue that I saw online.... you gotta pick the thing up and make it's OK for you ;) Try some sports shops tomorrow.

Yup, you've got to feel it to know it.

I like light, long cues, but it really is a case of having a frame or two to see how it feels.

picking it up and feeling it is not a option. my dad is like, "what do you want for x-mas" and im like "pool cue" (yes i searched for pool cue, just sounds funny to me). They are going to order it online as there is no known place to get one from where my dad lives or anywhere around there and thats what I want for x-mas.

http://www.cuesight.com/funr08.html -> 19oz is what I am asking for.

I like light cues, and I figure 19oz is solid weight, enough to get a good break but light enough to get those solid shots in game. since my only option is to buy it online, what do you think about that one?

has some more that would be up my ally but that seams like the "coolest" design for its model at a decent price. hummmm???

Man, I cannot emphisize enough: Get your hands on it.
You obviously like pool, or you wouldn't ask for a cue, so you should know that you can't order a cue online.

It's like ordering a woman, the picture may look good and she might seem friendly, but when she arrives she's a man :(

Can't you go into a sports store near you that also has an e-commerce website?

dude, that website has some...wow. ok. but...haha, money? ya right. Plus, shipping? no way, im only in the USA from the 21st till the 4th and if a company (any) ships to me, well, you might know the EU tax laws on that one.

I KNOW! i gotta get my hands on it, BUT! this is not a option. I am serious. There are absolutly NO pool shops where my dad lives and I can't think of anything else for them to get me for x-mas. If it comes down to it then I am going to sell it and buy a new one but I don't want to think about that. My dad is all about giving me somthing physical instead of giving me the money for what I want that I could buy here, and I am not about to <span style='color:blue' title='I'm naughty, are you naughty?'>smurf</span> off the man that pays for my college (you know what I mean)

But, what do you think about the stick I posted eariler? You think its aite? I am no newbie at pool but I am a newbie at buying my own stuff.

not bad- I wouldnt buy it without getting my hands on it first, however - but yeah I agree on the 19 oz weight

I look for 12 mm tips with screw on replacable tips , and the tip cap where the fiber tip screws in must be brass (I break hard, which can easily split the cheap plastic tips or slip on caps) I dislike the wrapped thread butts - the trads fray and then start to come off, and your pretty pattern doesnt last - I prefer leather wrapped or carved annealing for the handle area, and the joint needs to be really good quality. If your dad is gonna buy it, I'd say grab whatever looks good to you... but if I was gonna buy one for me out of my own pocket, I wouldnt spend a dime on anything I couldnt actually handle and examine really carefully :)

I'd call it a reasonably decent buy, but I cant guarantee you would like it :)

Sure do. In the UK, we pretty much ignore them - most of my Xmas shopping has come from the US, and I haven't paid tax yet (although that might explain where one of the gifts is) :)

Like those guys said, it's impossible to find a good pool cue by pictures alone.

I've got a pool table in my front room at home, we've got a couple of cues. You can get a great cue for £30-£45 (roughly $60).

bastard. i got a hat and gloves from a us company and was taxed about 20 euros! and that was after the most extreme burocracy in the world.

truckfixer:

i agree with you on the tips but I like the thread wrapped butts. i like the feel of it, i really dont care if the pattern shifts. if you get a nice one too your thread won't fray, actually I never saw one fray. leather to me feels funny, but then again its all personal preference now isnt it.
