Does such software exist?

Post by RobertPaul »

So at my job, I often find myself printing out "books" made up of dozens of different documents in different formats. What I'm looking for is something that I can "composite" (though that's not really the right word) them with while still leaving them as individual files. Something that will remember the order, per-file print settings, etc... so that every time I print them, I don't have to sit and print each one individually. Some need to be printed colour, some need to be printed large-format, some single-sided, some double-sided, some folded ... so I can't just dump them all into a single PDF.

I tried to search around, but I'm not even sure what to search for.

Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

I was going to suggest making a PDF until I saw your comment (even then you can do greyscale vs color in various pages) but surely even using such software would take just as long (if not longer) than printing them all off? You'd still have to load them all into the S/W.

Something that allows you to record keystrokes/mouse movements/clicks .. or to program them... and then play them.. Although there are a lot of products like these, this is the first one i found with google http://www.tethyssolutions.com/product.htm. But as i said, i'm not sure that's what you're looking for...

Well, it'd take just as long the first time around, but from there on out it'd be a matter of one "print this bach of docs" comand.

I think InDesign (maybe Freehand) can do some of this, via using external object references (Adobe calls them Smart Objects) ... Although it's been a while since I worked with InDesign and Freehand...
