Do you live in the UK? North East?

Post by onion2k »

If you live in the north east of the UK (Newcastle, Sunderland, Middlesborough, Durham, York, etc) could you drop me a PM if you'd consider attending an evening in the pub .. err .. I mean a North East PHP User Group .. just wondering if it'd be worthwhile.

Bare in mind I don't actually live in the North East .. but I probably will soon(ish).

If you know of one that exists already drop me a lion. Or a line. Either is good. ;)

I grew up there but I'm working in the north west now (Manchester). My family still live there so I'm in Middlesbrough on occassion (including xmas).

You two need a geography lesson. The UK does not stop at Hadrian's Wall. Newcastle, Durham, Manchester etc... are nowhere near the North of the UK.

Where/when is the North East PHP User Group being held?

Where: It's tempting just to say Newcastle, but it depends what's the most convenient for the majority. If there's more PHPers in York than anywhere else then I would suggest any meet should be held there. It also depends on people's traveling abilities.

When: Currently there's no firm plans to even have a meet. I'm just considering the possibility, finding out if it'd even be worthwhile organising one. It definitely wouldn't be for a month or three yet .. unless someone other than me were to organise it. I'm 300 and something miles away at the moment.

I'd be keen to travel up for this and meet some of you guys :) York would be good for me too since it's that bit closer than Newcastle -- and it's nicer than Newcastle IMHO :P Not that I don't like Newcastle... I used to spend a lot of time there when I lived in Durham.

Where abouts in the North East might you be moving onion?

Well.. nominally Newcastle, but I'd rather live somewhere a little quieter.. perhaps along the Tyne Valley toward Hexham. The company I'm with at the moment doesn't have an office as there's only three of us and we all work from our homes .. mine being Bournemouth .. as we expand we'll need to actually talk to each other a bit more .. and clients like having somewhere to visit. It's my driving test tomorrow.. assuming that goes OK I won't have any problem getting to Newcastle, York, 'Boro, Sunderland .. hell, I could even come to some of PHP Manchester's meets. I enjoy driving. And I'll have a nice shiny car. Oh yes.
