First off, i would like to thank the moderators for saying this thread does fall under the general category. A year ago when i ran a website (openwar.net) that offered hosting i had to deal with people on forums all the time trying to interpret things so it makes them look correct. So thanks for not closing this.
Guys this wasnt supposed to be a big deal. I asked for opinions and stated some observations i have made, and many of you stated counter arguements. Then with those arguements also personally attacked me, which i dont think i ever did to anyone. I was trying to have a discussion, thats all, no need for people to take this personally, but for some reason people always seem to do that.
Now about XAMPP, that is a different story. I use apache2triad (similar to xampp) and that is an installer that does a setup of apache, php, mysql, ftp, mail, everything. That isnt what ColdFusion is. Coldfusion integrates the CF technology into an existing or standalone server.
About dreamweaver. I guess i wasnt aware coders, scripters, developers or whatever people call themselves had to use a specific environment. I guess to avoid someone telling me im a fool for using dreamweaver i should have mentioned i also use Eclipse.
Thanks Maugrim_The_Reaper for giving me a good response to this thread. Thats what I was looking for as an answer.
In closing, i would like to say that, and this is my opinion, some people need to be more openminded and not attempt to come off as someone who moderates or runs the forums. I guess i was someone most of you were not used to, someone who brought forth a different concept and tried to support it as best i could. But please try to be more accepting of other peoples opinions, it gets really old really fast when people keep that mindset that they are always right, that they set the bar for a *real* programmer and anyone who doesnt conform to their style isnt worthy. That mindset really can bring down a forum, i know from experience.
I was just looking for someone with experience in the language (and experience doesnt count if you havent used it in 5 years! who knew both and could comment on the overall language. Anyway....
Thanks
-Steve
