I'll continue saying 'gif' .. mostly because everyone I know says it that way, and I'm a stick in the mud.

haha I was just about to post that

I always say MySQL since I think MySequel is just weird to me since there is no E between the S and Q... if there was, I'd say Sequel.

Peanut butter images!

Interesting. The first reader comment made me laugh!
First of all let me say that Mac zealots should be rounded up into cattle cars, gassed to death and incinerated to make certain there is no remaining genetic material that might infect the rest of the gene pool.

Although I'm not currently using a Mac, I did every day for 6 years. New avatar day. Gonna go dig up a new one.

at the bottom of the page.
The official way to pronounce “MySQL” is “My Ess Que Ell” (not “my sequel”), but we don't mind if you pronounce it as “my sequel” or in some other localized way.

I'll keep pronouncing it as "GIF". Because "Jiffa" in Hebrew slang (it comes from Arab actually) means something dirty and disgusting. And besides it sounds much better with a hard G.

I'm gonna have to keep saying GIF.... If I try and say Jif it's gonna mess with my head cos I'll be thinking of the cream cleaner Jif (Now known as Cif) :?

That page is a pile of crap.

Who cares how the creators tell you to say the word? The English language dictates how we say things, not a bunch of programmers.

Well if I'd written something big like GIF and there were varying pronounciations I would simply take the stance that "it doesn't matter how you say it as long we're all talking about the same thing". Mr Torvalds :)

Well I can honestly say I've never said a file extension out loud, but in my head I read a .gif as gif, with a hard g.

Why would it be jif :? As someone else said, there used to be a kitchen cleaer called Jif that's now called Cif.

I also think MySQL is pronounced My Ess Que Ell, but .jpg as Jay Peg, but that might be because of the alternate extension .jpeg.

It's weird though, because thinking about it, I would pronounce the World of Warcraft abbreviation WoW, as the word wow. Same with Call of Duty, I would pronounce the abbreviation CoD as the word cod, with Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, MoH:AA I would pronounce it Mo Har. :?
