JIF or rather JIFF is a image format related to JPEG, sadly.

Please, like they didn't come up with 'GIF' first, and some words for the acronym afterward.

GIF can't be open source, because the name contains no recursion. "GIF Interchange Format" doesn't quite hit it :(

Linux and PHP both provide exceptions disproving that rule.
