IE wont' submit anything?!?

ok, I think I need to preface this post with:
PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS POST WITH 'Use Firefox' OR IE IS WORTHLESS KINDA STUFF!
That said I have come across something I've never seen before. I just set up a new user here in the office and created a profile for them on an old machine (windows 2000 with IE 6).
When they try to submit ANY form (even from google), it doesn't do anything, it just sits on the form page, no status bar flicker, no page change...nothing. I have changed all of the IE settings back to default (security, privacy etc). I have run ad-aware. I have checked for toolbars (there are none), and I have run a virus scan. I'm not fresh out of ideas as to what could be causing this problem.
any other ideas?
thx,
Burr

Is it conceivable the source html is being corrupted by an intervening application? (I had dark thoughts once when I discovered what Norton was doing on Win XP one day...) Maybe too obvious that...
That, or after reading your reply restrictions, use Opera

and guess you missed the 'kinda stuff' qualifier....
how could I tell if there is something else intervening? I don't think there are any bho's on the system, but not sure if adaware searches for those

you've done the obvious restart, re-login, re-everything?

Also have you made sure any temporary internet files folders have been emptied (obviously not necessary if this was a clean install).

I used to get this problem.... it would hang for up to a minute after clicking the button and then finally submit. It turned out to be a spyware issue. Running Ad-Aware fixed it.

yes, rebooted etc.
he didn't have any temporary files etc cause it was a brand new profile for him on the machine.
I've run adaware, there is no spyware on the box?

Heck.... it'd be quicker to just delete the profile and recreate it

well, now it seems that all of the profiles are suffering the same issue.
I really don't want to have to rebuild the machine...but it's looking more and more like that's my only option here.....

I'm sorry (Side Note) How messed is it that you may have to do a rebuild just because a browser is messed up!

browser is already up to date....and assuming I did need to upgrade it, I can't, I can't submit any form data even at windowsupdate.microsoft.com
