I have reviewed a few commercial ones, which IMHO are the best...

But I'd like to hear from you...

Which do you think are the best??

The only commercial on I've used is OpenCube DHTML they have java applets for the ancient browsers net 4 etc. But I'm experimenting tonight with WebDDM. If anyone has used this before I'd love to hear what you think of it. It appears to be fairly robust. I tried suckerfish menus. I had a hard time changing them to something I could use. If anyone else knows of anyothers I'd love to hear about them. This topic is timely. I'm actually planning on playing with WebDDM tonight.

I've used OpenCube but now I'm using CSS for menu generation. I'm not too worried about older systems. :P

The only question I have about WebDDM is what about SEO. Will search engines map my links. Their buried in JS. Does anybody know?

probably not, but that's solved with a sitemap. I don't use dropdowns I think they're cheesy and hard to use since every one is different. If the user has to play with my menu to learn to navigate my site I did a bad job with usability. Not to mention all the browser incompatibilities and they don't work in javascript disabled browsers.

I don't like DHTML Menus myself for all the same reasons -- but I've explained the issues to the client and they want them. So what can you do?

haha nothing, that's the one thing about working for someone, you have to give them what they want regardless of how silly it is

I'm not a huge fan myself, but drop down menus are a tool and they do serve their purpose. The problem occurs when a technology becomes pop culture and then cliche.

Its kinda like scrolling marquee's and repeating background images in the earlier days of the Internet :P
