HD Setup

I'm planning to build a computer with the following setup:
2x 15,000 RPM 37gig HD with ubuntu linux using raid 0 - SCSI 320 [80 pin] - 16mb cache
2x 7,200 RPM 250gig HD formatted fat32 using raid 1 - SATA 150 - 8mb cache
What do folks think of this setup?
I would like to find a microatx mobo with SATA150 and SCSI320 [both with raid] built into the hardware, but from my searching so far, nothing has come up. I presume I'll have to grab a microATX with SATA 150 raid and then add a SCSI raid controller...

Fans my friend, fans. You need a fan blowing on each one of those hard drives because that is a ton of heat. Good setup. What are the specs on the processor or videocard and what kind of ram?

Can I ask why you're using FAT32 ? You can set very limitted filesystem permissions on FAT32 partitions so if you're using it to backup data from your Linux filesystems you'll most likely lose any permissions unless you tar things first.

two responses:
- Fat32 is a good fs for read/write from both linux and windows
- Its a personal computer - one user - perms dont really matter since I'm backing up only data [music,videos,1337 haxoring]

Using samba you can read *nix hard-disks on a Windows PC through the network.

Ultra 320 will be hard to find on any MicroATX board.. I'd just go with a SATA II (onboard RAID) and go for a secondary SCSI RAID, like you suggested earlier.

Any suggestions for a SCSI 320 RAID controller?

I've always loved Adaptec hardware.. and I seem to remember them having fairly good support in *nix environments too..

Can you advise me on which SCSI controller to get? This will be my first experience with SCSI so I don't have a clue what I'm doing.

I'd get a compatibility list from the flavor(s) of *nix you're going to use, apprently Ubuntu. Since I'm not familiar with their hardware list, I can't really say which one would work well, so you may want to check with an Ubuntu user list or something. I do know they are making great pains to get compatibility quickly for many new hardwares, but 320 has been around for a while, which could be good or bad (likely good.) I would imagine their support for any of the Adaptec's is quite good since the company has such a long history with SCSI.
I cannot recommend a particular model as I don't work with SCSI drives anymore.
