I want to ask if any of you have ever dived into the realms of "speed reading", and if so... how did you learn and what would you recommend to me (software, books, etc) to learn?? Thanks for your help... it's greatly appreciated!

EyeQ maybe?

I have that, but I've not used it much. But for what I did, it did give me improvement in reading speed.

I can't read paragraphs at a time though like they say I could, but meh. I am happy going word by word. :)

I don't know if I speed read but I do know I read really damn fast with a high retention rate. How? I read a lot, and I've been doing it for a long time. Practice is the key :-D

Well I've looked into speed reading. The concept is you see clusters of words rather than single words and you hear in you head phrases instead of single words. I can read with good comprehension at about 300 wpm. I can hit 400 wpm but comprehension goes down. Speed reading made reading novels and books more enjoyable for me.

This says it better than I can: http://skepdic.com/speedreading.html

In a nutshell, speed reading != comprehension (usually).

Skepdic wrote:* There seems to be only one person who can read at such speeds with near-perfect comprehension. His name is Kim Peek and he has the ability to read two pages simultaneously, one with each eye, with 98% retention. Nobody knows how he does it but he was born without a corpus callosum, that bundle of nerves that connects the right and left hemispheres of the brain. However, others have also been born with no corpus callosum, or have had it surgically disconnected, without resulting in an increase in reading or retention abilities. Kim can recall most of the contents of some 7,600 books. But, since nobody knows how Kim Peek does it, nobody can teach this skill to others.

Kim Peek was partly the model for Raymond, the idiot savant in the movie Rain Man.
Awesome.
