Globally...
1) George W. The planet fears him, some Americans respect him and extremists hate him.
2) Osama
3) Suddam
4) Micheal Jackson
5) Prince William...mostly because of his mother
Now if you what you mean is who's the worlds most famous symbol...
Everyone knows McDonalds is the worlds most recognized product label...and Ronald McDonald is synonomous (sp.) with McDics...
Ronald McDonald, then...must be the world's MOST famous person...

Yeah Coke and Pepsi are up there.
I was in this remote, poor part of Ethiopia on a bus travelling between two large cities, and at this stop we took to grab food and whatever, I saw this hotel across the street that was literally ENTIRELY painted with Pepsi colours and it had Pepsi logos all over it. Apparently there is a pepsi plant there and they sponored the building.
Funny thing is, the next stop, a few towns over, there was a hotel that was entirely painted up with Coke logos and colours.
Never knew I'd see a brand war in rural Ethiopia but it happened... lol
That made me realize just how intensive and worldwide their brand war really is.

I always wondered what is that makes people to start and participate in "Top X" threads...
My top 5 kinds of people who can be famous:
1) Bad politicians.
2) Crappy actors.
3) Very rich bastards.
4) Sports humanoids.
5) Serial killers, terrorists, fanatics, etc.
"No politics", "no politics"... It seems that only messages that have the word "politician" in them are considered political. The planet fears him, some Americans respect him and extremists hate him.
Currently, I live in US. I've seen abut 3 minutes of Oprah show in my life, and I heard about Donald Trump about 2 times. I'm not even shure what Donald Trump does (aside from being rich). Those are echo celebrities. They are famous only because everybody talks about how famus they are.People like Oprah and Donald Trump simply aren't well known outside of the west.

I'd disagree. Oprah is famous because she is a billionaire. She has a insanely popular show among women. She produces another popular show Dr. Phil. She has a magazine that's popular. And around the world many see her as a role model.
You can't say the same thing about Donald Trump, but you can in a sense. He was one of the most famous people in the US during the 80s and still had decent name recognition throughout the 90s and this decade he is/was in a very popular TV show (not sure if it's still around, don't care to check) and you can't forget the fact that he owns the Ms. Universe contest, which I'm sure has global exposure (obviously =P).
But within the NY area, he is very popular. His dad was a real estate mogul and he followed after him and they have a lot of property in downtown New York, including Trump Towers and I believe many establishments on 5th Ave. Manhattan, NY (one of the most talked about streets in the world).

I've heard about oprah, but i don consider myself as the average european. Some new channel, five-tv (i prefer to name it wive-tv because they broadcast a lot of feminin junk), has decided to broadcast her show.. But i'm pretty she's not very well known in Europe.. (Or we don't want to know her :p)
1) Osama Bin Laden
2) Rowan Atkinson as Osama
3) Rowan Atkinson as Mona Lisa
4) Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean
5) Eddy Wally (I choose him for my paper on icons of the 20th century :p)

All her entertainment/media business ventures.Gambler wrote:How exactly had she become a billionaire?Oprah is famous because she is a billionaire.
So through fame, came fortune. And through more fortune, came more more ventures, which lead to more fame. And with more fame came more and more fortune. Thus she is a billionaire.
I wish I was reaping the benefits of a snowball effect like that one. heh
