VoIP

Post by shiznatix »

Ok! So I really want to be able to call people in the USA from where I am at but...I don't wanna pay (who would?). I am not too keen on the whole system of everything but if I setup a Asterisk server or somthing would there be a way for me to call phones through it if I was able to setup the server in a local area of the people that I want to call?

Is this even possible or am I just dreaming?

From how I understand VOIP basically means you phone the companies webserver and it converts the conversation to VOIP. Therefor I don't think your idea is possible. You have to pay to have the server connected to the phone matrix.

What country are you in? The USA is the only country in the world which doesn't tax inbound calls. Hence they are free. If your carrier is charging you per minute I would encourage you to contact them and request an unlimited plan. I remember in the UK (or New Zealand) you could get unlimited calls to the US for about $15 per month or so about 3 years ago. Just call and ask about the plans they have. You should be able to get a better rate. Just shop around.

Ok Estonia

Looks like the main phone company is http://www.elion.ee/wwwmain I can't understand that language but you might want to check out the calling plans there. I also found a calling card web site with rates starting at less than 1/3 cent per minute to the US.
