Ack, CRT Monitor!

Post by Chris Corbyn »

Hmm... Laptop br0ken... Gone back to any old noisy PC temporarily with a CRT monitor. No kidding I never realised how much my eyes liked LCD. i'm having to really strain to read this. The flicker is quite noticable. Gotta love LCD/TFT!

Someone gimme some sympathy :P

I feel your pain! If you can set your refresh rate to 75htz or 85htz it will go away. 85htz is preferred.

Yeah I'll prob have a muck around with my xorg.conf tomorrow but I won't put oo much effort in because I plan to go to maplin and buy parts to fix the Laptop. Stupid Dell... the DC port on it is bust inside.. took the whole laptop apart today and the actual pins that are soldered to the mobo are snapped (perhaps it's something to do with the fact someone tripped over the power cord :P). Soldering iron wasn't much help today... new DC jack and port and all should be OK. Gah... actually the battery is also knackered so that needs replacing too, or the cells need repacking. Desktops are so much easier to fix :(

Actually, I can't stand LCD.

My pair of 21" CRT's at 75Hz (80kHz) is undeniably better than virtually any affordable LCD. Of course, the fact that I can get a 21" monitor at all is blissful enough (try finding an LCD that size for less than $500!).

LCD's just don't cut it for my gaming, and image creation needs. Yet.

However, the latest generation are really cutting down the differences, and my power bill cries out for me to buy LCD's instead. Someday.

Gonna go to Maplin in a min and see if I can get the parts cos this desktop is noisy as anything, the monitor takes up almost all the space on my desk and it hurts my eyes :-! Hmm... I wonder how royally I'll screw this up :P There's soldering involved to fasten a DC port to a motherboard... hehe... I should get a blog so I can chronicle this stuff :P
