I remember reading the previews last year. They've had a year since then, and another 6-8 months yet before a release. I mean how can they be making it any better?
Looks like a very cool game, and you may not even need broadband to play it since online player files are supposedly in the 1-10KB range.

From what I remember back in school, he started working on this back before the last Sim___ came out. It's a continuation of the Sim franchise, to a degree. Although more an evolutionary step along the path to his final goal of being able to simulate everything, combining SimEarth, SimCity, the Sims, even SimAnt into a giant metaball allowing you to fiddle with creating anything you like at any macroscopic or microscopic level.

The "meta" game as the narrator pointed out would probably be the goal of most players. The game which players create as their own personal (or group) goals that are not rules or "winning strategies" that the game universe makes up. Things like, "I want to create 5 worlds of perfect utopia and see what happens when I send 2 warlike worlds at them" or "How fast can I get from single celled organism to full fledged space faring civilization?" or "Can I make a world so strife ridden they nuke themselves to death?".Roja wrote:ie, you are building up, carefully, for a LONG time, to what end?
Meta games have always been an important part of gaming and are especially important in MMOs considering that's almost all there is in them since there is no way to "beat" the game.

IIRC, Darvinia scaled. I could zoom into individual unit, or zoom out to see the whole digital "continent." That gave me the strange feeling that entire world of the game is interconnected and exists in real time. Well, I've got the same feeling looking at the video, although I realize that both games are very different visually and in terms of their engines. Does this make sense?The only similarity I can see is that they're both new types of games...
The fun is in the act of building up itself, or at least that's how it is for me when playing games like sim city.. As long as they don't make it like Black & White (the game by EA and lionhead studios), where you adhere to a storyline and sit through cut-scenes every 5 minutes I think the game will be a success. The difference between this and the sims for example is in the sims you customize your people using objects they already have designed for you, ie a new set of sunglasses. In this game you design your "creature" from the ground up.. As long as they don't screw up when making the creature editor the things you could create are endless. I'm sure a month after this comes out I'll have 10-15 parallel save game files each with a different creature I'm working on.
